130201 HyunA Hangs Up on Jung Hyung Don on “Weekly Idol”

On recent episode of MBC’s “Weekly Idol” that aired on January 30, MC Jung Hyung Don attempted a phone conversation with HyunA, who was selected as the best looking member of 4minute.

When Jung Hyung Don asked HyunA who was the ugliest in 4minute, HyunA answered, “Jung Hyung Don.” Jung Hyung Don became annoyed and hung up.

When another phone call was made, Gayoon asked HyunA, “What do you think of Jung Hyung Don and Dae Joon?”

As a revenge for Jung Hyung Don hanging up on her, HyunA hung up immediately. Jung Hyung Don became even more annoyed and yelled, “Hey! You aren’t that great!”

130131 2YOON reveal they were encouraged by Girls’ Generation’s compliments

2YOON recently sat down for an interview and revealed their thoughts on their debut as well as the compliments they received from Girls’ Generation.

2YOON shared, “We were very happy when the Girls’ Generation sunbaenims complimented us a lot. Girls’ Generation sunbaenims said, ‘The song and dance are good, and the style and overall concept were well-thought-out,’ and showed their support. Not only the title track, but they also specifically mentioned track 4, ‘Se Se Se‘, on the album and discussed it with us. After hearing that, we were even more touched. Through Girls’ Generation’s compliments, we gained more strength for our activities.”

“Since the two of us are the vocal line of 4minute, there were many opportunities for us to sing together during concerts and radio programs, and we thought that at this time, it would be a good idea to release an album together. We asked our agency first if we could release an album. After our agency listened to our plans, they said, ‘Make something good,’ so we directly participated in the album jacket, style, and album production.”

“All of the 4minute members like it more when we work than when we rest. We would like to continue our album promotions longer and make 2YOON’s music and style widely known.”

2YOON recently made their debut with title track “24/7” off their album ‘Harvest Moon‘. The duo have been receiving attention as the first K-pop artists to attempt the country pop dance genre.

130201 2Yoon: "We Are Workaholics, We Prefer Working Over Taking Breaks"

Idol groups’ subunits allow members to show new talent, new side of them by diverging from their original style. For example, Orange Caramel surprised fans with cute dance music instead of After School‘s feminine and sexy charms while Infinite H turned to sentimental hip hop genre instead of their original performance-centered pop music.

As a result, fans and critics already expected 2Yoon to present something new and different from the usual 4minute style of music. However, what they came out with is beyond “new and different;” it’s the complete opposite of 4minute. There is no more sexy choreography. Instead, their performance is rather wholesome. They moved away from electronica and introduced American country to their music. On the album jacket, pigs and chicks make guest appearances to really express that calm, country feelings.

Gayoon said, “Right when we got the song, we didn’t play it for anyone, not even our agency CEO. We listened to it just with each other and thought, ‘This is it!’ It was exactly what we wanted to do, so we decided to go for it no matter what others say.”

2Yoon decided that they want to work with each other when they started preparing performances and special stages together. They shared musical tastes and fans also wanted to see them as a unit group. As a result, they proposed doing 2Yoon to the agency. 2Yoon was in effect last year and they started collecting songs for the album. As they picked the title song “24/7,” the whole process started to speed up as well.

Jiyoon complimented Gayoon, “Gayoon came up with the visual and sartorial concepts. With 4minute, we just contributed our thoughts and ideas. But this time, Gayoon was in charge of the visual aspects and I was in charge of producing. We actively participated as if we were competing against each other. We attended all the meetings. Gayoon used to be really bad at using technology and computers, but she somehow managed to make a project plan for outfits. Putting pigs, chicks, and dressing me up as a tomboy, they were all her ideas.”

Gayoon explained, “Jiyoon stood out when we were promoting ‘Hot Issue’ with her androgynous, tomboy look. But as we continue to go with what we see as 4minute’s style, her androgynous concept was getting lost. So I did my best to bring it back and do it right.”

Gayoon also garnered much attention with her extremely slender figure, as she lost 8kg preparing for 2Yoon’s come back. Although she didn’t actively try to lose weight, the choreography for “24/7″ contributed greatly to her weight loss. She explained, “I was a little stressed out and sick, too. But most of the weight loss comes from dancing. Choreography for 4minute were technically challenging but were not physically demanding. On the contrary, it is very physically demanding this time. We are basically running from the beginning to the end of the song. I felt as if I’m back in a PE class.”

Some idols talk about how they dream of escaping or how they are always yearning to take a break for once. However, 4minute is not one of those idols. All members of 4minute claim to be workaholics, who gets more energized from moving their bodies and working busily. Jiyoon expressed, “After the promotion of 2Yoon, 4minute will make a come back sometime in the first half of the year. We are diligently preparing for it. We also would like to make a come back in the second half of the year too, if possible. I don’t want to take a break. As I am confident that we have matured and got better preparing for this album, I am already excited for the next one.”

130130 2YOON’s Unit name was supposed to be SsangYoon

As the new year starts, the entertainment industry is trying its very best to break the entertainment slump. Mushrooming units from existing idol groups have become a name for survival in the entertainment industry. With such, 4minute who has received support from their solid fanbase since 2009 is keeping up with the trend, and has formed unit group named, ’2YOON’ with members Heo Gayoon and Jeon Jiyoon.

Bearing the image of strong female warriors, Heo Gayoon and Jeon Jiyoon who are in charge of 4minute’s vocal line have come together as 2YOON. Both Heo Gayoon and Jeon Jiyoon who are unable to experiment other possible styles due to 4minute’s colors, have revealed that they wish to do so. Their title track ’24/7′ showcases 2YOON’s overshadowed vocal talents while keeping themselves musically competent. 

◆ “The unit name was initially SsangYoon but…”
Initially, the unit name was decided to be formed from both of their names Heo Gayoon and Jeon JiYoon.
“We suggested first. (Smiles) Since when we’re trainees, our vocals suits each other’s well, so we had such talks many times before. We’re the vocals of the group, (so we had put on stages during concerts) as we seemed to put on a natural duet stage and fans’ responses was overwhelming, we have decided to come out like this.” (Jeon Jiyoon)
2YOON’s formation was due to fans. And since both of their names had ‘Yoon’, they promote as a unit with the name ’2YOON’, but it was revealed that this name wasn’t their first choice. They revealed that it was supposedly to be ‘SsangYoon instead of ’2YOON’.
“Since debut, our nickname has always been ‘SsangYoon’. So, it’s natural to have talks about us being named as ‘ssangyoon’. Fans too, have called us ssangyoon all this while. However, upon deciding a name for our unit, it was discussed that ‘ssangyoon’ might be heard as a curse word if it’s mispronounced, hohoho. We have never thought of it, probably it’s because we are too used to it. Through discussions and suggestions, we have come up with 2YOON instead of SsangYoon.” (Heo Gayoon)

◆ “A different style than 4minute, but we’re not intending to end this one-time only.”
Through many twists and turns, Heo Gayoon and Jeon Jiyoon have born as 2YOON. From now onward, 4minute’s vocal line are given the chance to show their true colors. In fact, since 4minute is an originally striking and a group that puts on strong performance, the two were unable to show off their vocal capabilities as they wish. It would be a lie if they say that they didn’t have any regrets.
And because of this, the two are grateful to try something different from 4minute as 2YOON members, which leads to the birth of their title track, ’24/7′.
“It’s mostly my ideas about the whole concept, starting from the jacket pictures. We actually tried hard to convince our president-nim who keeps shaking his head. We wanted to try a big transformation with our genre and image like this.” (Heo Gayoon)
“We have our image changed and so, it was fun. It was fun when we’re with 4minute too, but truthfully speaking, because of our strong concept during 4minute promotions, we were left with only that impression. However, for now, we can smile as much as we like on stage. (Jeon JiYoon)”
A positive change leads to pleasure. And so, 2YOON aren’t doing this for just one time only. Because it is a chance to show ‘myself’.
“If it comes out well, will it be a long-run project? We’re not sure of the outcome, but we do hope that it would be long-run. Because we are able to sing songs as we wished and to show those we are unable to show in 4minute. It’s good to do it as 4minute with the members, but 2YOON has its own charms too. (Heo Gayoon)”
Jeon Jiyoon agreed to Heo Gayoon’s words. 2YOON are ready to take off their veils and discover new possibilities, creating what they wished into reality.

130130 BEAST's Yoseob Thinks HyunA Is the Prettiest 4minute Member

BEAST‘s Yoseob recently revealed that he thinks HyunA is the prettiest member out of 4minute.

On the episode of “Weekly Idol” that aired on January 20, 4minute’s sub-unit 2Yoon(Heo Ga Yoon, Jun Ji Yoon) appeared on the show.

A mission during the show was for 2Yoon to guess Yoseob’s ranking of the 4minute members’ looks. Yoseob’s rankings were already given and Ga Yoon and Ji Yoon had to guess his answers.

Ga Yoon guessed, “HyunA is number one and I’m probably the last,” and explained, “Yoseob oppa is the most awkward with HyunA and the closest to me.”

Ji Yoon also answered, “Yoseob oppa probably chose that order because he didn’t want to hurt the person he was least close to,” as she agreed with Ga Yoon’s answers.

The emcees, Jung Hyung Don and Defconn revealed the answers and said, “You got both the #1 and #5 answers correct. Now we know what Yoseob’s character is like.”

During the show, 2Yoon called their fellow 4minute member HyunA and had a witty and funny conversation with her to much of the fan’s delights.

130128 Hyun-a is chosen as Guess model

4Minute’s Hyun-a has become a Guess girl.

The idol singer who is just as big as a solo act as she is with her girl group, was picked to be the face of Guess’ casual line “G By Guess”.

A Guess spokesperson said the label went for the “fresh pinup girl look” when shooting the advertisements. “Her youth and sex appeal fit the vision of our company perfectly”, said the spokesperson.

With the vixen star of Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video on board, the brand said it hopes to appeal to a younger demographic.

Advertisements featuring the 20-year-old will be unveiled next month.

Regarded as one of K-pop’s sexiest starlets, Hyun-a was also picked alongside Kara’s Hara and Sistar’s Hyolyn to represent Lotte Liquor’s line of soju last year.

On Feb. 2, Hyun-a will perform ad meet with fans at home through the “United Cube Concert”.

Orchestrated by her agency, Cube Entertainment, artists like 4Minute, Beast, G.Na, B To B and Roh Ji-hoon will perform.

130125 4minute’s Ga Yoon to Shed 18 Pounds for “24/7”

2YOON’s, a subunit of 4minute, Ga Yoon updated fans with the secret behind her 8kg (roughly 17.6 pounds) weight loss.

She shared with a local media, “I lost 8kg while practicing the choreography for 2YOON’s ’24/7.’” Ga Yoon said, “Once we start dancing, we sweat like crazy. Ji Yoonand I thought that our past choreographies for 4minute were easier than this.”

She added, “Now, we can’t even fit into our own clothes. We have to get even the smallest sizes refitted. The number of fans worrying about our weight loss is increasing. Since we’re balancing exercise with our diet, our health is ok. We’re very strong.”

Ji Yoon revealed, “Because we’re promoting as a group of two, our [singing] portions have increased. Also, our choreography doesn’t let us rest during the performance, so we’re definitely using a lot more energy. A while back, we were practicing for our comeback performance with [child actress] Kim Yoo Jung, and she said that she kept getting so hungry after dancing ‘24/7.’”

Since splashing onto the K-Pop scene in 2009 with debut single Hot Issue, 4minute has set out to turn heads, and the girls certainly have, making headlines not only for their music but for getting mixed up in a few scandals along the way. 

True to the song′s lyrics, the 4minute members have been hot issues “from head to toe," and we’re looking back on some of the ‘Hot Issue’ boys, many just friends of the girls (and some maybe more), who have gotten caught in 4minute’s web. 

Teen Top’s L. Joe

In January 2012, Teen Top’s L.Joe tweeted a few photos of himself with 4minute’s So Hyun with the message “Stupid! Will you be my girlfriend?” 

Although it was later revealed that the tweet and corresponding photos were from Teen Top′s music video for Crazy, starring So Hyun, it didn′t stop our imaginations from running wild at the thought of another possible idol couple.

B2ST’s Yoon Du Jun

Cube Entertainment label mates Yoon Du Jun and Heo Ga Yoon once got mixed up in a scandal of sorts when the B2ST leader said that he′d like to make the 4minute member his girlfriend on MBC variety show Weekly Idol. 

Yoon Du Jun was ranked as the number one male idol whom female idols would like to make their boyfriend on the ′Idol Self Ranking′ segment of the show.

Things took an interesting turn, however, when MC Jung Hyung Don asked the B2ST member which female idol he′d like to make his girlfriend in a phone conversation during the show, and Yoon Du Jun said Heo Ga Yoon without a moment′s hesitation, raising many eyebrows.

Super Junior’s Donghae

When 4minute appeared on Mnet′s The Beatles Code in June 2012, the girls put their celebrity friendships to the test to see how their friends would react to an uncomfortable request. 

The group′s leader Nam Ji Hyun decided to call Super Junior′s Donghae to ask to borrow five million won (about $5,000), and when the idol star said he would lend her the money right away, no questions asked, the MCs (including fellow Super Junior member Shindong) and guests couldn′t hide their shock, causing viewers to wonder if the two′s relationship was more than just close oppa and dongseng.

ZE:A’s Park Hyung Sik

Since meeting on the first episode of tvN′s reality dating program The Romantic & Idol, 4minute′s Nam Ji Hyun and ZE:A′s Park Hyung Sik only had eyes for each other on the show. 

And despite many attempts to mix up the couples, Nam Ji Hyun and Park Hyung Sik always found their way back to each other, leading viewers and the idol stars themselves to wonder if they were meant to be. 

There′s no word on whether the sparks are still flying between the cute couple in Seoul, but we′re definitely keeping our eye on these two.

MBLAQ’s Lee Joon

Rumors that 4minute′s Hyuna and MBLAQ′s Lee Joon were dating began swirling when the two were seen flying to Japan together to film for Hyuna′s Bubble Pop! music video in June 2011. 

Although it′s common for celebrities who work together to get mixed up in dating scandals, Hyuna and Lee Joon′s chemistry off screen proved to fan the fire.

True or not, we can′t deny their chemistry on screen. 

B2ST’s Jang Hyun Seung

As one of the most representative ′Hot Issue′ boys, we, of course, couldn′t leave out Hyuna′s troublemaking other half Jang Hyun Seung.

Hyuna and B2ST′s Jang Hyun Seung set out to stir up trouble in the K-Pop world as unit group Trouble Maker, and although the two idol stars′ chemistry on stage was believable (to say the least) it was the their closeness off the stagethat caused many to wonder if they were more than just troublemaking partners in crime.

What do Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, Rihanna and 4minute′s Hyuna have in common?

They are all great girlfriend material for Justin Bieber, apparently, according to an article Billboard published last year titled, ′Justin Bieber: Who Should Be His Next Girlfriend?" 

Hyuna has been recieving worldwide attention since appearing in Psy′s Gangnam Style music video, and although the reaction to Hyuna′s inclusion in the list was mixed, it was certainly a hot issue among K-Pop fans.

Girl group 4minute’s leader Nam JiHyun has made a surprising visit to newly formed and active unit duo 2YOON (Heo Gayoon, Jeon JiYoon)’s debut stage, personally giving her support to her dongsaengs.

On the 17th broadcast of Mnet Mcountdown, after 2YOON’s performance, Nam JiHyun came to the broadcast set to give her support. Nam JiHyun who met up with eNEWS has revealed, “I’m really proud of my dongsaengs (2YOON). I wanted to give support personally, so I came to the set”.

Followed this, “There were talks about unit promotions, and they really prepared this for quite a long time. I’ve been looking at the process, and that’s why I’m really proud and want to give support to them. With their hardworking looks, the rest of the members too are motivated and will be preparing for a better comeback in the first half year,” She expressed.

At the end, Nam JiHyun, as a 4minute leader, also spoke about their aspirations in year 2013, “By kicking off 4minute’s activities with 2YOON as a start, 4minute will make a comeback and gain good responses. I hope 2013 will be ’4minute’s year’”.

Meanwhile, 4minute’s maknae Kwon SoHyun appeared as a surprise special MC for ‘MCountdown’, together with John Park. Maknae’s support for 2YOON’s ’24/7′ AND ‘Why Not’, has gained hot responses.

‘SseSseSse’ which is personally composed, written and arranged by Jeon JiYoon herself, will be included in the album. Jeon JiYoon who has been recognized with her outstanding vocals through broadcasts, will be showing another side of herself as a producer.

ZE:A Park Hyungsik who coupled with 4Minute’s Nam Jihyun in tvN The Romantic & Idol came to our office for the interview, while waiting for the interview he appeared like someone who is waiting for his lover, with excited gaze.

[Park Hyungsik] ‘I haven’t seen the broadcast yet’ is what I want to tell. But all my hands and legs already curled. (Laugh) All the people around me had fun (made fun of me?) They also want to participate in the show. The members also said that it was a great meeting. All 8 of them are good people and well behaved, so the program fits us well. The program seeks for the truth and sincerity of the people. So, even if there are couples who doesn’t match with each other, that is also the charms of this program right?

The idol travels a lot even until Norway. However who are these people? In South Korea, isn’t KPOP Idols are the busiest compared to other people? Even when the schedule is not fit, they still went to stay in Jeju Island for 4 days and 3 nights. “Meeting the other brothers, sisters and younger ones as a 22 old Park Hyungsik, not singer Park Hyungsik, it feels really great.” Park Hyungsik smiles and added “Though everyone have come back to our routine, we have our own group meeting in Kakaotalk to chat. 130114 2Yoon releases “24/7” teaser featuring Jiyoon

After releasing Gayoon’s teaser, 4minute’s first unit group 2Yoon has now unveiled another video teaser for “24/7” featuring member Jiyoon!

Released on January 14 via Cube Entertainment, the latest teaser continues with the previous teaser’s Wild West theme, showing scenes of Jiyoon, definitely piquing the interest of the fans.

2Yoon will be making its debut with country pop track “24/7”, a genre that has never been attempted before in K-Pop. The song will feature a refreshing combination of rap and vocals and will be released on on January 17 along with their first mini album ‘Harvest Moon’ .

Following Gayoon’s teaser, 4minute’s sub-unit 2Yoon has now released the second batch of teaser photos, featuring Jiyoon.

On January 8, Cube Entertainment’s official Twitter posted a couple of teaser photos showing Jiyoon embracing a piglet, making fans even more curious to what the unit group’s concept is.

2Yoon has already finished recording and shooting the music video at the end of last year, however, the unit’s first title track and the overall album’s concept are still under wraps.

130108 4minute unit 2Yoon sets debut date + releases Gayoon’s teaser

4minute sub-unit, consisting of members Gayoon and Jiyoon, has decided on an official name for their new group, ‘2Yoon’ (Previously named Double Yoon). According to Cube Entertainment, the unit is set to drop their first mini-album on January 17.

While the members finished recording and shooting the music video at the end of last year, 2Yoon’s first title track and the overall album’s concept are still under wraps.

Giving fans a sneak peek of the album’s concept, teaser photos for Gayoon have been unveiled as well. In the photos, Gayoon was featured wearing a white dress and adorably playing with chicks, giving off a country chic vibe.

Prior to her upcoming debut as part of duo group Double Yoon with Gayoon, 4minute’s Jiyoon released her latest digital single “Love & Friendship”.

Released online on January 3, “Love & Friendship” was released for Jiyoon’s musical ‘My Love by My Side’ where she plays the role of BokHee, who’s in her 20s and dreams of becoming a ballerina.

Having gained recognition for her singing talents through KBS2 ‘Immortal Song’ and musical ‘My Love by My Side’, Jiyoon once again impressed the public with her powerful vocals through her new single.
